RiverKnits is run by Becci and Markus, and they dye British wool yarns in their studio by the Grand Union Canal in Weedon Bec, Northamptonshire. RiverKnits is all about hand dyed colour, combining the traditional material of wool with original dyeing techniques to create exciting new ways of making. They have a strong focus on sustainable sourcing and natural fibres. That’s why all RiverKnits wool yarn is grown, spun, and dyed in Britain
We started with Chimera and Nene 4ply, both pure British Bluefaced Leicester, spun in Yorkshire and dyed in Northamptonshire. We have added their Northampton Shear – this comes from a single flock of Leicester Longwool sheep in Astcote, just down the A5 from their Weedon Bec studio. Flock owners Chris and Barry favour black Leicesters, which is why the yarn has a natural grey heathered appearance, as all the shades of black, grey, silver, and white have gone into this delightfully local spin.
