Garthenor’s mission is to promote and provide a variety of sustainable, organic & British wool products in an ecologically responsible way.  Our aim is to help secure the future of British organic agriculture and the British textile industry.

Their organic yarns are produced from wool sourced directly from the finest certified organic flocks in the UK, and are carefully blended to produce deep, heathery undyed shades and masterfully skein dyed colours.

We are stocking Cairngorm, Pentland, Preseli, Snowdonia Sock, Number 1 and Number 2

Cairngorm : a single ply, woollen spun lace, spun from 100% single flock organic Romney lambswool.  Beautifully rustic, Cairngorm is organically dyed into a palette of 16 shades and reaches its full potential when wet blocked. Pair with Number 1 for gentle neutrals. See shades here

Number 1: the lightest member of their yarn family, a single ply, woollen spun heavy lace. These have a slightly rustic nature, and they reach their full potential once they’ve been wet blocked.  Knit this on some 5mm needles for some open and airy lace work, or switch to 1.5mm for a denser, tighter knit fabric. Pentland : twice the thickness of Cairngorm, this woollen spun, 2-fold 4ply is a dream for colourwork. The textured plies give excellent definition throughout – a real all round workhorse yarn.  Pair with Number 2 for gentle neutrals. See shades here

Preseli : to create the subtle, complex pair of bases that make up Preseli, they’re mill-blended as tops before spinning. By blending this way, they’re able to get a smooth, even top that keeps the deep grey blend, perfect for heathery tones once dyed. A blend of Polwarth, Romney and Hebridean, Preseli is their softest yarn ever. See shades here

Number 2 : Beautifully woollen spun into a light and airy four ply weight, a warm workhorse yarn.  Their gentle twist and bouncy fibres trap plenty of air to create a warm and even fabric.  The heathered depth of colour is achieved by blending up to 8 different shades of raw fleece before scouring. Snowdonia Sock : high twist, worsted spun Romney and Hebridean make up Snowdonia Sock. Designed from day one as a durable, straightforward base, achieving a stunning undyed gradient simply by mill-blending the buttery smooth tops. Everything about Snowdonia Sock is deliberate: the fibre is chosen for it’s strong, smooth characteristics, the twist has been carefully measured to keep the gorgeous integrity of these two breeds whilst achieving the necessary long-lasting ruggedness of a good, honest sock yarn.
